HELP STOP VETERAN HUNGER
The Louisiana Flavor Homeless Veterans Feeding-Nutrition Program Organization is dedicated to raising awareness about the plight of homeless veterans in our country. Throughout the year, we actively engage with the public to fundraise and spread awareness within our communities. The numbers are stark: between 130,000 and 200,000 veterans are homeless on any given night in America, making up a significant portion of the overall homeless population. Many more face excessive rent burdens, placing them at risk of homelessness.
The future poses additional challenges. Women veterans and those with disabilities, including PTSD and traumatic brain injuries, are particularly vulnerable. Many veterans returning from current conflicts face these conditions. Despite comprising only 34% of the general adult male population, approximately 40% of homeless men are veterans. The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans estimates that 200,000 veterans are homeless on any given night, and 400,000 will experience homelessness in a year. The Department of Veterans Affairs reports that 97% of these homeless veterans are male.
Through our efforts, we aim to shed light on these pressing issues and provide essential support to our veterans.
OUR MISSION
"To ensure that every homeless veteran across the nation receives nutritious meals and essential support, fostering their well-being and dignity. We are committed to providing consistent, healthy food options, advocating for their needs, and collaborating with communities and organizations to address the root causes of hunger and homelessness among our veterans. Our mission is to honor their service by restoring hope and improving their quality of life through compassionate and sustained nourishment. Since 2016, we have been providing free breakfast and lunch to around 200 veterans experiencing homelessness at their annual Stand Down event in Louisiana. Each year, we transport kitchen equipment and raw food supplies over a 400-mile round trip to provide these deserving veterans with free meals. We collaborate with the Veterans Administration and The National Coalition for the Homeless to offer these meals. A Stand Down connects homeless veterans with services that lead to permanent housing and supplies to help during the transition. We always plan to serve our veterans breakfast and lunch at every Stand Down. We typically feed over 200 veterans and support staff. Please reach out to us with any questions. Help Us Help Our Veterans!"
